Latin case & accent tools

Change Latin casing and selected accents or punctuation while preserving Arabic and emoji.

Casing affects Latin letters only, without linguistic title rules. Sentence starts use . ! ? ؟ followed by whitespace. Accent removal targets marks attached to Latin letters; Arabic hamza and emoji remain. Letters without canonical decomposition, such as ø and ł, remain.

How to change the case of English words in Arabic text

Arabic reports, slides and posts are full of English words: product names, technical terms, email addresses. Sometimes they arrive in capitals because Caps Lock was on, or they come from different sources in inconsistent styles. This tool changes the case of Latin letters only. It can make them upper or lower case, capitalise each word or each sentence, and it leaves Arabic letters, Arabic diacritics, digits and emoji exactly as they are.

It can also strip accents from letters such as é and ü, and straighten curly quotes and dashes in the Latin part of the text.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text into Original text. Arabic and English can be mixed in the same paragraph.
  2. Choose a Latin case: UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case or tOGGLE.
  3. Tick Remove combining accents on Latin letters if you want Café to become Cafe.
  4. If needed, set Punctuation to Straight quotes & dashes or Remove ASCII punctuation only.
  5. Leave Protect detected links & email on so links and addresses stay exactly as typed.
  6. Check the Result, then copy it or download it as .txt.

Settings: Remove combining accents on Latin letters · Punctuation: Straight quotes & dashes

What each option does

  • Title Case: lowercases every Latin letter, then capitalises the first letter of each word. Good for short headings and product names.
  • Sentence case: lowercases, then capitalises the first Latin letter at the start of the text and after a full stop, a question mark (Latin or Arabic ؟) or an exclamation mark followed by a space. In the second example only the first letter of the English sentence ends up as a capital, and the email address is left alone.
  • tOGGLE: swaps upper and lower case, which repairs text typed with Caps Lock on: hELLO wORLD becomes Hello World.
  • Straight quotes & dashes: turns curly quotes into straight ones, and en and em dashes into a hyphen. Arabic guillemets «» are not touched.
  • Remove ASCII punctuation only: deletes basic English punctuation and keeps the Arabic comma, the Arabic question mark and «».

Pitfalls to watch for

  • Acronyms lose their capitals: in Title Case, USA becomes Usa, iPhone becomes Iphone and JavaScript becomes Javascript. The rule is mechanical and knows nothing about brand names, so check those words afterwards.
  • Small words get capitals too: the tool does not follow English headline style, so of, the and at are capitalised like every other word.
  • Removing ASCII punctuation changes numbers: it deletes full stops, percent signs and hyphens, so 3.5% becomes 35. Avoid it on text with decimals or unprotected links.
  • Expecting Arabic diacritics to go: accent removal only applies to Latin letters, as the third example shows. To strip harakat from Arabic, use the Cleaner; the guide to removing Arabic diacritics explains when that is safe.

Limits

  • Only Latin letters are changed. The tool does not transliterate Arabic or alter its letters or hamza.
  • Title Case and Sentence case are mechanical rules, not proofreading. No language-specific rules are applied, such as the Turkish dotted and dotless i.
  • Letters with no canonical decomposition, such as ø and ł, are left as they are by accent removal.
  • Link protection detects addresses starting with http or www, plus email addresses. A bare domain such as example.com is not detected and can change case.

Frequently asked questions

Will Arabic letters or diacritics change?

No. Only Latin letters are affected. Arabic letters, harakat, hamza, digits and emoji stay exactly as they were.

How do I fix English typed with Caps Lock on?

If it looks like hELLO, choose tOGGLE and it becomes Hello. If it is all capitals, choose Sentence case or Title Case.

Why didn't my links and email addresses change?

Protect detected links & email is on by default. Turn it off if you want them recased too, but remember that parts of some web addresses are case-sensitive.

Is Title Case good enough for English headlines?

Only partly. It capitalises every word without exception and lowercases acronyms. Review the heading afterwards and fix small words and brand names by hand.

Can I remove accents without changing case?

Yes. Leave Latin case on Keep and tick only Remove combining accents on Latin letters.
